Holding a safe,
therapeutic space for you.

Who am I?

I’m Sara and I’m a UKCP Registered Systemic Family Psychotherapist, I graduated from the University of Leeds with an MSc in Family Therapy and Systemic Practice in 2015 and have 25 years experience of working with children, young people and families with mental health difficulties in the NHS, I have a background as a Registered Mental Health Nurse.

I’m Sheffield based and accessible for clients from South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire/Peak District.

What I Do.

Being a Systemic Family Psychotherapist means that I work with ‘the system’ which my clients are a part of, considering them not only as individuals but as part of their relationships, families, their work system, friends system and wider society.  Thinking about differing perspectives which individuals might hold and how these impact on my clients, their sense of self and their relationships.

How I Work.

When I first meet clients we have a chat about what’s brought them to therapy and what their hopes are. I’m a collaborative therapist and I work with what is brought, going at my client’s pace, checking out what’s helpful, using transparency, sharing my thinking to build a good therapeutic relationship.

I will explain what is meant by confidentiality and record keeping. My clients and I will negotiate how many sessions they might need and how often we should meet, usually weekly in the early stages of therapy. I usually meet my clients face to face however there’s room for thinking about virtual sessions if that’s appropriate.

What people are
saying.

Our 16 year old daughter was overwhelmed with moving forward in her life . Sara’s non judgemental & thoughtful approach allowed my daughter to open up about her feelings and provided her with the tools to put her worries in perspective & gain a new sense of purpose. It was also very helpful that Sara included myself in the sessions when the time was right ,which as a family has helped us immensely.

I have been seeing Sara both alone and with my son (9yrs) for over 2 years now. Sara is very calming and patient and has great listening skills. We have worked on emotional attunement to help me to understand my son’s emotional needs that he is still learning to process himself. Sara is very observant and manages the sessions really well giving both myself and my son the time and opportunity to talk about the things that are important to us in each session. My son and I both feel respected and have complete trust in Sara. The time we have spent with Sara so far has been invaluable in strengthening our relationship and helping me to support my son and I am thankful that we found her.

I found Sara when I was struggling to manage the overwhelming emotions I had been trying to cope with for most of my adult life. I had reached a point where I didn’t feel able to process everything I was feeling and needed someone to help me. I immediately warmed to Sara. She gently guided me through our sessions. Helping me to find compassion for myself and providing a safe space for me to experience those emotions, in a calm nurturing environment. It has truly been life changing for me. And the best thing I have ever done for myself.

My son and I had got into a toxic cycle of disagreements that were escalating when I contacted Sara. There was a wait to see her but it was so worth it. I was so impressed with how effortlessly Sara managed to win my son’s trust and engage him in therapy when he was initially quite resistant to it. Sara has created a safe and empathic space in which I am able to connect with my son and talk about difficult issues, which has started to change the way we relate to each other. I am so grateful to Sara for her skill, professionalism and compassionate approach to helping us feel like a family again.’
